The Colonial Walk
A private historian leads you through the ruined convents and hidden courtyards before the streets fill.
DiscoverA UNESCO-listed city of cobblestones and ruined convents beneath three volcanoes — learned slowly, on foot, in the hour before the day begins.
Antigua Guatemala was the colonial capital of Central America until an earthquake unseated it in 1773. What remains is a city held in amber: a perfect grid of cobbled streets, baroque facades the colour of dust and ochre, and the ruins of monasteries that nature is slowly reclaiming — all of it framed by the cones of Agua, Fuego and Acatenango.
It is the most graceful place to begin a journey through Guatemala. Mornings are for the markets and the light; afternoons for coffee fincas on the slopes; evenings for a candlelit courtyard supper. We compose Antigua as an overture — unhurried, sensory, and quietly grand.

The dry season, November through April, gives Antigua its postcard light — clear volcano views and warm days that cool sharply after dark. This is also the season of the city at its most composed.
For those who can bear a crowd in exchange for one of the world’s great spectacles, Semana Santa — Holy Week — transforms the streets into rivers of coloured sawdust beneath solemn processions. We arrange access from balconies and private vantages, on the right side of the rope.
